WHAT IS TESTOSTERONE DEFICIENCY?
Some men have low testosterone levels. This is called Testosterone Deficiency (TD) or Low Testosterone. These terms are sometimes interchangeable. Deficiency means that the body does not have enough of a needed substance, resulting in signs and symptoms that can often be mistaken as an effect of ageing.
WHY DOES TESTOSTERONE MATTER?
Testosterone is the male sex hormone that is produced naturally, mainly by the testicles. Testosterone hormone levels are important for normal male sexual development and functions.
In men, testosterone helps maintain and develop:
- Sexual features
- Muscle mass
- Adequate levels of red blood cells
- Bone density
- Sense of well-being
- Sexual and reproductive function
Why a man may have low testosterone?
As men get older, testosterone levels often decline naturally; however, in men with testosterone deficiency the levels of testosterone drop to a point where it affects their health and enjoyment of life in a variety of different ways. It is particularly common in older men and those who already have type 2 diabetes and erectile dysfunction (ED). Low testosterone can be an important health warning for these other conditions.
Why do some people need testosterone?
